Grarov Blondie 7-9-08 |
Sadly we have lost one of our lovely queens this day ...
She fell ill suddenly and before we could realize the gravity of her condition....our vet advised us of her irreversible illness:
Pyometra: is a disease of the uterus most commonly seen in female dogs, but also seen in queens (female cats), rabbits, ferrets, rats and guinea pigs. Pyometra is an important disease to be aware of for any cat owner because of the sudden nature of the disease and the deadly consequences if left untreated. It has been compared to acute appendicitis in humans, because both are essentially empyemas within an abdominal organ. |
She did not present with the typical symptoms: She was bred and had started contractions her 63rd day. She had no excessive thirst or urination, no diarrhea, no vomiting, no distended belly and no temperature. She had a discharge from her eyes and slight tremors, then a seizure. An X-ray confirmed Pyometra and immediate surgery. She did survive surgery but died shortly afterwards.
This disease can be avoided with timely spaying of young females by 6 months.
For more information you may read about this deadly disease at the following links....
